Sonny Rollins @80 Contest
Winners Announced!
1st Prize, 2 Tickets to the Concert:
John Clarry: "I'm originally from the Detroit area, where I played saxophone in high school and learned to love sax based jazz. I heard Rahsan Roland Kirk and an electric Miles Davis play, before I moved to New York for college. There were many more jazz venues in NY (some defunct now), where I heard Pharaoh Sanders, Phil Woods, Zoot Sims, Al Cohn, Frank Morgan and others play. I last heard Sonny Rollins play at a local college about 10 years ago, where I also heard Kenny Garrett (not Kenny G!) and Greg Oglesby play. I teach part-time and listen to jazz on WBGO, and I'm looking forward to hearing Sonny play again with his all-star guests. Although it's been awhile since he played in NY, it should be a epic celebration for his 80th birthday."
2nd Prize, a copy of Saxophone Colossus - A Portrait of Sonny Rollins:
Catherine A Marquardt
3rd Prize, a copy of the Definitive Sonny Rollins on Prestige, Riverside and Contemporary:
John Scherrer
3rd Prize, a copy of the Definitive Sonny Rollins on Prestige, Riverside and Contemporary:
Dale McCook
