It is very disappointing to hear the 50th Anniversary Concert will not be released. This is puzzling for a couple of reasons. First, a lot of people at the show and many eminent musicians thought the music was great. Also, the reasoning is odd. Sonny has said in interviews that he doesn't listen to his own recordings (or even much other music during the last 20 or so years). One listen to the version of Serenade on Sonny, Please should have sufficed to keep that off the CD. Is Sonny embarrassed at how "great" the trio with Christian and Roy sounds compared with his nondescript band? No one who has written about the concert has said the trio playing was not up to snuff.
