Hi Sonny -

I was listening to "Sonny Side Up" on 12-11-07 and realized that "Duets" was recorded on 12-11-57 and "SSU" on 12-19-57.... I played with Dizzy in 1977 (college gig) and met Mr. Stitt, who promptly gave me his "standard" saxophone lesson ("how may keys...."). My longtime pianist informs me that SS asked him the same question for piano!

I've also recently become aware that you've been quoting "Oh, Susannah" for fifty years as well ("Vanguard," "Please"). For whatever reason, I never noticed it before (maybe it's because I heard James Taylor's version of it for the first time recently....). Now I can't stop doing so myself!!!! :)

You're of course one of my biggest influences and I'm happy to report that players & audience members hear some of you in my tenor playing....

Thanks for talking to me at Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor and Orchestra Hall in Detroit - it meant a lot to me....

Thanks also for enriching my playing, the world in general, the tenor, and "Don't Stop The Carnival"!
